Picture

I found this picture that I thought kind of related to Edna. It seems to me like this woman is trying to break free or escape. She looks almost "done." Edna seems to be done with the expectations for her. I can't quite think of another word. What do you guys think of this?

  1. I think this photo does show a woman who is done, (rather than trying to escape). Or maybe she's trying to escape by ending everything. She also seems to be purposefully looking away from the surface, trying to look away from her life. Also, she seems to be holding some like rope-thing in her right hand. I wonder what that is.

Also, while I was reading the last part of the book, for some reason the song "Without You" (David Ghetta) playing in my head. And I guess that was basically the reason Edna ended her life right? She couldn't live without Robert. Do you think there were other main reasons she committed suicide?

  4. I'm cracking up right now... Laurel you really didn't like Edna did you? I think that she knew she couldn't be happy in the life society created for her (or she created for herself) so she just decided not to live it. Had I been in her place I'd probably have done the same thing. Honestly, her suicide did not surprise me, and not just because the ending was slightly spoiled for me. She seemed to be getting happier throughout the chapters, but there was ALWAYS some sort of turmoil in her head, and more so leading up to the end. No matter what, it's still tragic.
